PenFed is hiring a Analyst I, Business at our headquarters in McLean, Virginia. The primary purpose of this job is to provide analytical, business, and member experience support to IT Service Desk, Certification and Business/Technical team. The Business Analyst I will review incoming incidents and evaluate with the goal of closing ticket or assigning to appropriate Technical team for resolution.  In addition, the incumbent should be knowledgeable in multiple applications, platforms and processes both technical and functional to assist with not only triage but overall transition and delivery of corrective, adaptive, preventative and perfective changes into production.

  •  Work with technical and analytical triage efforts and initiatives that require data analysis or are technical in nature.  Research issue components, conduct business analysis, support with the preparation of business replies at all levels, analysis into trends and ensure tickets are reviewed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with communications to ensure all stakeholders are aware of incident timelines, resource impacts, and operational impacts.
  • Conduct analysis as necessary to close out issues at level 1 review or escalate following defined incident processes.  
  • Work with business analyst/technical teams to identify tools and techniques to review and ultimately resolve issues.  
  • Develop or assist with process improvements for IT Service Desk, Business and Application Management Teams to clearly document the business and functional processes as they relate to the workflow and technical solutions.
  • Assist IT staff and/or vendor personnel with the conceptual design and development of systems, and in some cases handle scripting of configurations or test cases.
  • Develop and execute business implementation plans, test plans and scripts, and regression testing.
  • Maintain a log of risks and issues with resolution options and timelines, informing the business customer appropriately and escalating where necessary.
  • Determine how to use Jira and Confluence as tools within the Agile/ SDLC to ensure the team understands both the business and technical needs.
  • Assist IT with problem resolution and follow up on outstanding issues
  • Proactively escalate significant or ongoing issues while understanding the major impacts to technical and business-related areas
  • Provide recommendations and solutions that can be implemented to correct the problem
  • Work closely with business unit and IT technical staff across all departments to ensure changes are implemented according to business and IT technical specifications.
  • Work with Change Management Team to coordinate required development and deployment of system enhancements.
  • Assess for trending and to determine if a potential systemic incident for escalation.
  • Triage role appraises each incident for training opportunities within the Business and IT Service Desk.            

Education and Experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Science or a related field is preferred.   However will consider a combination of experience and education in lieu of a degree with specialized coursework, training, or experience in information technology and data analysis.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing business analysis, working with large amounts of complex data, and developing member experience workflows is required.
  • Experience with eliciting and documenting both functional and non-functional technical requirements in financial services setting is required.
  • Experience implementing process improvements in the business analysis space is required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise employees.

Licenses and Certifications

There are no additional licenses and/or certifications required.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*


Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
