Chief Data Architect

Summary
PenFed is hiring a Chief Data Architect at our headquarters in McLean, Virginia. The primary purpose of this job is to lead and own the overall Data Architecture at PenFed. This position will coordinate the architecture vision for Data Lake, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data sourcing/integration/consumption in advanced analytics, machine learning, data management, data archiving, storage and access.

  • Establish Data Architecture and Data Transformation Roadmap.
  • Lead data architecture for the enterprise-wide Data Transformation.
  • Partner with Lines of Business and Technology teams to define and deliver Enterprise data solutions to enable easy access to data that has a consistent usage for core data (customers, accounts, products) and can be easily scaled to meet anticipated data growth.
  • Establish peer level relationships and with senior leaders across technical, product and business lines to become a trusted advisor on all aspects of Data Architecture.
  • Must be able to quickly understand as is state of data architecture at PenFed and will be able to design data solutions, identify improvements, options-tradeoffs, define target state solutions and propose investment roadmaps, including recommendations to retire, build or enhance data platforms.
  • Clearly articulates documents and sell architectural targets, recommendations and reusable patterns to leaders and engineers.
  • Comfortably advantages learn and apply a wide variety of modern technologies and tools for PenFed’s data transformation journey.
  • Must be able to consolidate consumption patterns to consume governed data from certified data access points at the Enterprise

Education and Experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Advanced technology-focused degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience working in banking or financial as head of Data Architecture or as a Chief Data Architect is required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of Data Modeling, Data Integration, Data Warehouse, Data Governance, Data Design, Data Quality Assurance and Cloud Technology is required.
  • Experience with developing multi-year Data Architecture roadmaps or plans.
  • Experience with analyzing the factors required to rationalize or consolidate legacy data systems and introducing new and emerging data capabilities – Big Data, Hadoop, AI, MLL, Python, etc.
  • Possess deep experience in multiple aspects of data supply chain at a financial institute - producing, consuming, managing and utilizing data for analytical and operational needs.
  • Proven record of accomplishment for setting a target state vision, engineering data solutions and moving organizations iteratively toward targets built on modern technologies such as Big Data, Deep Analytics, MLL, AI.
  • Must be well versed with balancing data needs for Run the Business (Risk, Regulatory, balance sheet, Finance, etc.) and Grow the Business (customer analytics, cross sell, up sell, etc.) initiatives.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.
  • Exhibit mastery of facilitation and influence across teams, departments and divisions, with a record of accomplishment of building relationships with diverse groups of leaders and engineers.
  • Knowledge of Data Modeling, Data Integration, Data Warehousing, Data Governance, Database Design, Data Quality Assurance, Big Data experience and Cloud Technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, such as meeting facilitation, presentation documentation, and interpersonal communications skills.


Supervisory Responsibility
This position will not supervise employees. 


Licenses and Certifications
There are no additional certifications required.


Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.


Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
